Okay, so because I was a big fan of- Um... Well, the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, I thought I'd give Black Sails a shot: Thinking it would be a caring and critical look at the Age of Piracy. I wasn't expecting a thoroughly accurate representation, but I thought it would be a more realistic view.
But after one and a half episodes, I found it to be less a reflection of (or even a forgivable 'love letter' to) that time period, and more another over-gored, over-sexed cash cow for mainstream indulgence, dealing in heavy-handed and convoluted relationships and plots as a response to (I assume) the Game of Thrones series. So I decided to look online and see if I was crazy, or if other people thought poorly of the show. And in doing so, I found a Huffington Post review comparing it to a series I'd never even heard of...
And so now I'm all caught up on the first season of 'Vikings' and looking forward to season two in a few weeks. ^_^
The thing is... You've got the same sort of character in both shows. Pirates and Vikings. Plunderers, and looters... Generally, not people you can easily sympathize with. But the difference is that in Vikings, even if your modern sensibilities find something odious or taboo, you can tell the script was written with a lot of reverence for the history. (Appropriate because it's on the History Channel.) So thank you 'Black Sails'. I'd never have discovered 'Vikings' without you.
Oh, and happy birthday, and early birthday(s) to my many Aquarius peeps... And mom.

One week down
So, exactly one week ago was the last time I ever saw my baby alive. I got off work at five, and went to see her, told her to be strong. And... Friday morning, we found out she had passed away the previous evening at around nine.
As I work until ten, I expect this to be a particularly rough shift.
My mother pointed out that this will be the first time in twenty-six years that we won't have a sheltie. And for me, it will be the first time since my first year of life that I haven't had a sheltie. But... Misty had a good run, at fourteen years... Even if our first sheltie, Chelsea, beat her at sixteen.
We... And especially I don't have any re
Cranes and Shelties
My origami crane tutorial ( https://novernil.deviantart.com/art/origami-crane-tutorial-99065349 ) just got its 100th favorite: A first for me.
Otherwise, things have been kind of bleak lately. My sheltie, Misty, is not doing well at all. She had a sore on her left front leg (from constantly lying on hard floors -despite dogbed alternatives-) which is taking forever to heal. And half-way through a daily bandage change for that, we discovered another (worse) open wound on the back of her right front leg, which we believe was from a brown recluse bite. The vet's finally decided (after months of visits for both legs, now) to do a bacterial cultu
Just because
I've made journal posts for stupider reasons. I just want to share my elation on the comment improvements dA's finally gotten around to making! Now I don't have to deal with the embarassment of posting comments to the wrong person, or for making an observation that I realize has been pointed out a thousand times before me.
And, (because it seemed a little silly to have a post just to say "yay" over commenting) I'm psyched for Les Miserables at the end of the month! Whoo! Grantaire! XB ...Oh, and that other guy. What's his name? Jean Val- something. I'm already a third through the book, but since the book is lovingly referred to (by its fans,
Guilt Complex
You know that paranoid, guilty feeling you get when you call into work sick, and you're fine?
I get that feeling when I call in sick, and AM sick.
There I am at home, hacking up a lung, terrorizing tissues, and having sickness induced night terrors. And while I'm awake I'm thinking, "They think I'm faking it! They think I'm at the movies, or hanging out with friends!"
I get so twisted up about it, that I end up going to work the next day, even though I'm not fully over my illness. Also, half my state is iced over. The Hell? (Far better than the usual April weather, though, when your car doesn't have AC.)

I've heard alot about Vikings, but never actually thought about watching it. Is it actually as good as I've been hearing, or are you already in lust with a pairing?
